Guest Post by Samaire Provost

Hello everyone!  My name is Samaire and I write books. My favorite kind of book to read is YA Paranormal, and that’s also my favorite kind of book to write. This book SANCTUARY is the second in a series, the first was EPIDEMIC, and the third will be called DESPERATION and should be out by Thanksgiving. The series is called Mad World. It’s a series set in a dystopian world of a zombie epidemic that’s slowly taking over the whole planet. The story centers on a patchwork family of friends who have to survive the Zombie Apocalypse. In the first book they were in high school, and in this second book it is five years later. Our ragtag family is more tightly knit than ever, and very protective of its most vulnerable member Luke. He’s a five year old boy who is very special. There’s nobody like him in the entire world, and Alyssa, Jake, Caitlyn, DeAndre and Risa all band together to protect him and get him to safety. It’s not always easy protecting a precocious little boy, though. It’s an adventure I think you will like. I sure enjoyed writing it, and I feel the story of this family is going in a very interesting direction. In book three, which I am now writing, it may seem like the story direction is clear, but I promise you I will take you by the hand and start running. You will be surprised at the twists and turns the story takes. And if you’ve read EPIDEMIC and this second book SANCTUARY, you know I’m not afraid to kill off a character to make the story thrilling. Who knows what could happen?

The whole idea of the Mad World story came from two points. First, the scientists from America going to Europe to unearth Black Plague corpses and reanimate the Black Plague virus from the 14th century is a true story. This happened in 2011 & 2012 and I read about it and thought it was a dangerous thing to do. I thought, “What could go wrong?” and BAM! I had my story beginning. Second, my own senior acting class went on a year-end trip to Broadway, and we had so much fun! This is where the idea came to start out Alyssa and Jake and the others in NYC.

Couple of facts about me: I am a night owl. I write from about noon to 10-11pm, then go to bed, but not to sleep. In bed, I read. Boy, do I read! I have a bookshelf by my bedside, instead of a nightstand, and this shelf has two tall stacks of books on the top, as well as having all the shelves full of books. Most of the books are YA, some paranormal (well, most actually LOL) some just different or “odd” stories. I’ve got everything from Stephen King and Neil Gaiman, to Kiersten White and Amanda Hocking. I read from around 11pm to 4am. Until my eyes do that really cool droopy thing where you can’t keep them open and you’re in danger of falling to sleep with the book in your hands. I love that feeling. It’s delicious. That’s how I fall asleep every night. My dreams are usually filled with possible scenarios of the book I’m currently writing, and I wake up full of ideas!
