Order of the Dimensions by Irene Helenowski

When Jane Kremowski first began her graduate studies in physics at Madison State University in Wisconsin, little did she know where her work would take her. Now, she is embroiled in a multitude of dimensions all leading to different outcomes. She and her colleagues therefore must act wisely in order to take and keep away the Order of Dimension from falling into the wrong hands for the sake of her loved ones.

CHAPTER 7

The next morning, Jane and Amber quickly dressed and grabbed some coffee in the lobby before heading across the street to the convention center. They made their way through the convention hall to the room where Dr. Monroe's session was to be held. Walking towards the room, Jane recognized a tall, blonde woman with glasses that Amber waved over. "Hi, Dr. Perkins. This is Jane. Jane's advisor is giving the presentation today."

Dr. Gina Perkins smiled. "So you're one of Eric’s students. Pleasure to meet you. Eric and I go way back to grad school and have collaborated in the same field several times before."

"Pleasure to meet you, too. Amber was just talking to me about the work you do in your lab and Dr. Monroe has mentioned you before as well." Jane smiled back.

"Shall we?" Dr. Perkins pointed to the room. The three ladies entered, with Jane standing still for a moment and gazing at the black box she had entered previously that was now on stage.

"You okay?" Amber asked with concern, noticing Jane’s hesitation.

"Yes," answered Jane. " Where should we sit?"

"Dr. Perkins saved us seats closer to the front."

"Great," Jane replied, following Dr. Perkins and Amber as they sat and the session began, with a slender, balding gentleman walking to the podium, adjusting the microphone and speaking.

"Good morning, and welcome to the special session on Advances in Quantum Mechanisms. Today it is with a great privilege that I announce our first speaker, Dr. Eric Monroe from Madison State University, presenting on the technology that will help us to discover yet another frontier. Namely, the frontier of not only our but of other universal dimensions. This technology may indeed help us with making not only scientific, but social and economic implications in regards to the future. And so, without further ado, I present to you Dr. Monroe."

Prompted by this introduction, Dr. M. approached the podium and shook the gentleman’s hand. As the gentleman stepped down, Dr. M. adjusted the microphone to his liking and started speaking. "Thank you, Dr. Wilson for that gracious introduction. And thank you, the audience, for being in attendance - - including my two star students, Jane Kremowski and Michael Green, without whom this project would not have progressed as much as it did. Now, this project has been motivated by . . . "

Dr. M.'s presentation was

"It's locked!"

"It's locked?"

"It's locked!"

"Someone call security!"

Jane noticed several cell phones light up and sound off.

"My cell isn't working!" one woman shouted.

"Mine isn't either," a man's voice responded.

"Does anyone have a working cell?" yet another man asked.

She turned her head to see Dr. Perkins feverishly trying to make a call but to no avail. "My cell phone is not working either," she confirmed with a slight unease.

Just then, several men with flashlights appeared and the audience became relieved, believing the men to be part of security. The lights went back on, and the audience noticed the men were all dressed in black.

After a few moments, the figures in black began dragging individuals into the aisle and shouting; these men definitely were not security. A few of the men signaled to the ceiling, leading to ropes dropping down and several more black-dressed men sliding down the ropes to the floor of the hall and then to the stage. The room once again darkened causing the anxiety of the audience to rise significantly. Beating and screaming could be heard everywhere.

Someone grabbed Jane’s arm and dragged her to what she believed, in the dark, was the stage. She felt someone pushing her into a box. Was it possibly the Multiverser? Overwhelmed, she began gasping for air. She tried to scream but couldn't; she finally blacked out.
